Company to demonstrate cost, time and environmental benefits of transformer refurbishment

Companies looking to save money and time with their existing transformer assets should visit the Winder Power stand at Euro TechCon 2016 this week. Experts from Winder Power will be on-hand during the three-day conference to discuss the advantages of undertaking transformer refurbishments both on-site and in factory settings.

Winder Power are more than aware of the money and time savings available by refurbishing existing transformer assets in today’s energy industry, and has found that there are better techniques that can be used to determine the real condition of transformers. This can then confirm when there is remaining life in the asset, and in many cases, the life of a transformer can be extended for up to 15 more years, meaning that both money and time can be saved.

For this reason, most regulated and private network operators are now considering a combination of refurbishment and replacement as a strategy for maintaining a healthy transformer fleet. At Euro TechCon, Winder Power’s Technical Director, Elizabeth MacKenzie, will be available to speak to delegates about what is involved with transformer refurbishment, both on-site and in-factory.

According to Elizabeth, Regulation has matured in Great Britain and there is now much more emphasis placed on the condition of individual assets, which has resulted in a shift away from asset replacement to asset renewal. Extending the life of assets is good for customers as long as it can be achieved without adding significant risk to the continuity of their electricity supply. It also benefits customers because it results in lower levels of capital investment and hence lower bills.

Not all transformers are suitable for refurbishment and the method by which companies prolong the life of a transformer, be it in an on-site or factory setting, is one that needs to be decided on a case by case basis.

That aside, it is evident that the industry has come a long way in making responsible use of resources and demonstrating environmental sustainability by prolonging the life of transformers.

Winder Power will be exhibiting at Euro TechCon from 29th November to 1st December, and are available for any questions delegates may have. Euro TechCon is taking place in the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel in Bristol, with proceedings kicking off at 10am on the first day.
